Discussion: "If you are not having fun at work; you are not working!"

This quote by Abdul Hasan "If you're not having fun at work; you're not working." reminds me of a quote by Thomas A. Edison "I never did a day's work in my life. It was all fun." What do you think? How much fun do you have at your current job? Does your employer encourage his team of having some fun at work? Please share your thoughts or any interesting, funny personal experiences. Thank you very much!
Did you know that there is a direct connection between fun at work and employee creativity, satisfaction, morale, retention and many other factors that determine an organisation's success?
A congenial and a healthy work environment can be very much instrumental in increasing employee productivity. Stress free employees are an asset to the organisation. An environment that fosters fun is characterized by positive energy, high self-esteem. People feel valued and important and give their best effort to the task.
On the other hand, an environment devoid of fun may build frustration and stress in the employees leading to serious damage not only to the organisation but employees as well.
Fun:
- helps in releasing tension
- helps employees to remain calm under pressure
- helps through crisis and change
- helps create an atmosphere that encourages honest dialogue and open communication.
- fosters a climate of kinship that boosts morale and thus can make employees more productive and efficient.
There are some who would argue that doing so may prove to be harmful for the organisations. Such people consider it as a waste of time that would lead to lack of seriousness among the employees and ultimately results in decline in the overall productivity.
