Discussion: Is it appropriate in business for men to wear a pink shirt and for women a blue blouse?

Once I got a blue blouse from my aunt as a gift. Well, every time I wear it my husband asks me: "Can you please change this blouse, you look so authoritarian in it.” Well, I’ve seen many flight attendants wearing blue blouses because it is part of their corporate uniform, Italian police officers (whether men or women) also wear blue shirts/blouses and in business once in a while I also noticed men wearing pink shirts. What is your opinion about it? Is it appropriate in business for men to wear pink shirts and for women to wear blue blouses? I would particularly welcome the opinion of professional image consultants to tell as a bit more about it .....

It all depends on the situation. I would not wear a pink shirt to a formal business presentation, a funeral, or anywhere where it would affect the mood inappropriately. Otherwise, I wouldn't hesistate. A rule of thumb my tailor (Chipp in NYC) taught me was that if I wanted to add some flair (as I am about to do), do so with one piece of clothing only- either a tie or a shirt or a jacket, etc. This keeps even those of us who live life in capital letters under control.
