Who is the best presenter in the world: Joel Osteen vs. Steve Jobs - A discussion with my husband

Have you ever asked yourself "Who is the best public speaker in the world?" I would like to share my personal and my husband's opinion. PLEASE share your thoughts too by adding a comment. Thanks.

I would say that JOEL OSTEEN, a popular American Pastor from Houston, Texas, is my favorite speaker. Why? These are my personal five reasons.

#1 He is aware of the importance of beginning a speech or presentation with something original. He kicks off his mass (which I’m following as a Video Podcast on iTunes) with a joke. Something you would usually not expect to hear from a pastor. But he does it nicely and people have a laugh. This allows him to grasp the audience’s attention straight away.

#2 It doesn’t really feel like watching and listening to a pastor but to a life coach, mentor or motivational speaker. He is able to inspire, motivate people and turn them into more positive people.

#3 He uses stories, his own or other peoples’ experiences, to enrich his content and makes the whole speech more meaningful. That is what people love, remember and learn from.

#4 I would describe his delivery style as extraordinary. He speaks in such a natural way that to me it always feels like listening to a good friend who gives great advice. Considering the fact that a live audience of 40,000 people is listening to his weekly messages (he definitely must do something right!) it feels as if he would be talking to each of them personally. His body language comes across as very natural and genuine.  He speaks completely free for 30 minutes and doesn’t use any notes as other presenters often do.

#5 He is a very positive, charismatic person who is able to make an impact on his listeners. The way he relates to his audience is one of his keys to success.

My husband's opinion:

In my opinion STEVE JOBS, CEO of Apple Inc. is the best speaker in the world. Why is he the best? Because in order to be a good speaker, one has to hold the attention of the audience. They have to make sure that the ideas that they have, are being effectively past on.

There is a very known fact that Steve Jobs has what is called a “reality distortion field”, where he convinces the audience that the particular product he is presenting them is the best product for their needs and they have been waiting for this product to arrive since time in memorial. Presenting is all about storytelling and Steve Jobs is the best storyteller out there. He makes the audience feel as if they are part of his family. So, there is a very personal connection between the audience and Steve Jobs. Presentation is also about the art of suspense. When you watch a Steve Jobs presentation you would understand that throughout his presentation he grips the audience with this until the last moment, till the big reveal. He always keeps the biggest surprise for the end and he introduces that surprise by the following words “And one last thing.....” For a good presenter it is very important to connect with his audience.
