Etiquette Question: You are attending a conference and you'd like to have the card of a senior executive you meet. How do you get it?

You create an opportunity and establish rapport with them and develop a specific reason for them to ask you for your card in hopes they will offer you theirs.

There is no pat answer to this question, it all depends on what your goals are.

    1. You can send a note before the event introducing yourself and you would like to connect with them during the conference.

    2. Do your research before the event. Learn what you can about the company and the person. Contact the sponsors of the event or the event planners to request s schedule before the event. Often time the person you are trying to connect with, may be a presenter. This may be an opportunity to meet the CEO, again keep it brief.

    3. Search your data base you may know someone who knows the CEO, ask to arrange an introduction.

    4. Arrive early, sometimes the person you want to meet could be in the coffee shop. Stay late, again you may find them in the lounge.

    5. Volunteer to serve as a hostess/host or timekeeper for workshops and seminars the person you are wanting to meet is presenting.

Whatever you do keep it brief and always people want to know WHAT IN IT FOR THEM.
