Etiquette Blog: Jacqueline Whitmore
Recently I created a list of “Etiquette Professionals and their blogs” on my blogcast website. I must admit, the one from Jacqueline Whitmore stroke my immediate attention.
Have a look at her blog website:
http://blog.etiquetteexpert.com or
her corporate website www.etiquetteexpert.com

After having a quick read through the blog titles I knew that this is the one that I would be most interested in reading. It came not as a surprise to me when I read on the 10th January 2010 that she was named “101 Women Bloggers to watch in 2010” by WE Magazine. I’m impressed how her blog is being presented. It looks very professional and technologically savvy. The only thing I would add is a list of categories. A reader who might not have the time to read the whole blog but is interested just in a particular topic can easily and quickly find what he is looking for.
Now let me tell you what I particularly liked:
- real life stories and experiences (other peoples’ faux pas, personal experiences regarding cervical cancer and multiple sclerosis),
- a good amount of videos and a podcast
- useful product and website recommendations
- tips on social as well as professional etiquette topics
- news articles
- survey results and statistics
- interviews which have been conducted with her
- etiquette dilemmas
- diverse content (not just etiquette related but also about fashion, shopping, recipes, etc.)
- a request for donations (book donations for soldiers)
- discussions with other etiquette peers on Tip Jar Etiquette
It took me quite a while to read the whole blog which Jacqueline started in 2006. Originally I had 30 favourite blog entries which then I narrowed down to my personal Top 10 (they are in no particular order):
- What to say and not to say to someone who lost their job
- Jacqueline’s Favourite Cell Phone Etiquette Horror stories
- Are your manners fit for a queen?
- How to be a great roommate
- 15 things about me
- Pillow Fight: My unfortunate encounter with a Delta flight attendant
- How to be a better conversationalist (Jorie Scholnik)
- An Interview with Jacqueline Whitmore by Ava Pierce
- 10 Chinese Etiquette tips to observe at the 2008 summer olympics
- Tip Jar Etiquette causes confusion
I started to realise that reading blogs from etiquette consultants is much more interesting than reading general books on etiquette. Books on etiquette might very often teach you lots about the do’s and don’ts but in blogs you find so much more.
