Discussion: You have been promoted - but without any pay rise. Would you still want the job?
Let’s say your boss promoted you to a higher position within the company. The role involves much more responsibility and prestige. First, you think “Wow”, that’s great. But later you find out that the company would not be willing to give you a pay rise. Would you still want that job?

Just came upon your blog and find it really useful. Thanks for the great work.
Refusing to take the promotion just because it does not come with a higher pay, in my eyes is committing career suicide. The person who does this would set himself/herself apart as a money hungry lazy so and so. Plus it would be a slap in your bosses face who put faith in you and believed in your abilities.
I believe that you should be paid for the hard work that you put in. But lets not forget that there are people like Steve Jobs who works for Apple on $1 salary. One should take pride in their work, and if they are passionate about the work they do then money is secondary.
Let us not forget the recent case of the British Airline. Where the staff have agreed to take massive pay cuts in order to save, and some might disagree, the pride of Great Britain. Sometimes duty comes first before money even in this cut throat corporate world and we have many good examples of people willing to sacrifice a little to save a lot.
I really like your blog. Please advertise more on twitter. I believe also a live chat would be a good idea.
